See the full schedule for the Alberta Culture Days events below! From Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2, the streets around the downtown core of Red Deer come alive with dance, performances, pop-up galleries, museum exhibits, chalk artists, buskers, theatre games, kid’s activities, demonstration artists, plays, walking tours and all manner of arts and culture events.

Central Alberta Refugee Effort (CARE) and Catholic Social Services, Immigration & Settlement invite you to talk, celebrate and learn about cultural diversity in Central Alberta through multicultural art, crafts and performing arts. Live entertainment, art demonstrations and sale, cultural displays, ethnic food, facility tours and a chance to win a very special door prize. Come celebrate with us!

Opening Reception: Artribute Art School celebrates 7 years with new work by instructors and students

Opening Reception: Friday, September 30, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In the Main Studio: Trajectories – Galia Kwetny’s new paintings. Coded landscapes, encounters and reflections. Media are oil paintings on canvas and mixed media drawings on paper.
In the Little Gallery: Adult artists present their new work. Advanced artists (ages 12-17) present their “Peace” project and “Where in the World?” project.
Light refreshments will be served, and artists will be in attendance

Red Deer Reads Community Launch Party
Red Deer Public Library, Timberlands Branch, 300 Timothy Drive, 7 p.m.
Join us for a night of drinks, appetizers, and entertainment as we celebrate Red Deer Reads, our city’s Community Book Club. This event kicks off four weeks of Red Deer Reads programming, and will celebrate the winning graphic novel, The Outside Circle.
Faculty Selects exhibit

Instructors in studio classes often use the Red Deer College Permanent Art Collection as examples and teaching resources for students. For this exhibition, each faculty member will select a few of their personal favourites from the over 1000 piece collection. Starting in September, Faculty Selects will be up throughout the year.
Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry
Welikoklad Event Centre, 4922-49 Street, 7 p.m.
This documentary follows the inside story of Ai Weiwei, China’s most famous international artist, and its most outspoken domestic critic. Chinese authorities have shut down his blog, beaten him up, bulldozed his newly built studio, and held him in secret detention. Against a backdrop of strict censorship and an unresponsive legal system, this dissident for the digital age expresses himself and organizes people through art and social media. (rated 14A, 91 minutes)

Bull Skit Comedy presents SKETCHFEST!
The Scott Block Theatre, 4816 50 Ave, 8 p.m.
This 2nd annual festival will bring in 9 troupes from across North America to celebrate sketch comedy talent over three days. Troupes from Edmonton, Winnipeg, Los Angeles, and Red Deer will get the chance to showcase their unique sketch abilities to Red Deer’s diverse audience.
